How do I get hired as an HR manager? ›

Many HR managers hold a bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration or a related field. Employers typically require these job candidates to have several years of experience in HR, including HR administration, recruitment, employee relations and management experience.

Although the human resources employees are typically the ones who filter job candidates, you will likely get better odds of scheduling an interview if you reach out to department managers directly. Send your resume and cover letter beforehand.

Ask to speak to human resources, personnel or the person responsible for hiring. State that you are calling to learn about the company. State briefly what your value is to the company and ask about current or expected employment opportunities. Avoid leaving messages.

Briefly state your name and why you are interested in the job. Highlight your qualifications and experience in the body of the email. Be sure to focus on the skills and experience that are most relevant to the job you are applying for. Thank the HR manager for their time and consideration.

Only contact a hiring manager if that manager conducted an interview with you directly. It's inappropriate to reach out to a hiring manager at a company if you interviewed with someone at a staffing firm or in another role. If you try to work around a staffing company, it could backfire.
